Wyz Wimmin

The Wyz Wimmin & Friends Theatre Company’s latest production entitled ‘SHE’ is described as an exciting mix of contemporary social commentary and innovative theatre.

What: She
Where: Dorrigo Theatre
When: 8-9 August

Written by local playwrights and performed by award‑winning actors, SHE is a new production that blends dark comedy with powerful, intimate storytelling.

At its heart is a darkly comic one‑act play that was selected for performance at Lake Macquarie’s One‑Act Play Festival in March. This is presented alongside a suite of three connected monologues that together unravel a compelling family saga, plus a variety of additional monologues ranging from sharply comedic to deeply dramatic.

Playwright Liz Ellis has now joined the Company’s existing team of writers, and well‑known Bellingen local Dorin Hart has had one of her stories adapted for the stage.

“Our aim, as a community‑based organisation, is to contribute artistically and financially wherever we perform,” a spokesperson said. “We will be profit‑sharing with the Dorrigo Dramatic Society, and we’ve invited Dorrigo’s CWA to cater for both performances so that it can benefit as well.

“In Kempsey, we will be profit‑sharing with the Macleay Valley Theatre Company. The Bandbox catering crew will be serving their usual sumptuous feast, and local performer Greg Taylor will be a special guest for both Kempsey shows.

“Over at Bowraville, the café will be serving café fare plus wine, and we will share performance profits with the theatre.”

The spokesperson added that this style of theatre particularly suits groups of friends.

“Our form of theatre is great for groups because the ideas presented create ongoing conversations, and this production is sure to do that. SHE does contain contemporary adult themes, so we encourage audiences to come prepared for thought‑provoking material. Gather a group and go online to book.

“Tickets may be available at the door, but it makes sense to purchase beforehand, as performances sometimes book out.”

SHE will be on stage in Dorrigo on 8 and 9 August, then travels to Kempsey for performances the following weekend, before closing at Bowraville Theatre on 22 August.

Tickets are $30 each (plus a small booking fee). For bookings, performance times and full details, visit: wyzwimmin.org.au.
