She
Presenting monologues that are short, sharp and insightful portrayals of modern life, the Wyz Wimmin & Friends Theatre Company has become recognised as a trailblazer.
With material written exclusively by local playwrights, and presented by award winning actors, these monologues have created a following along the Mid North Coast.
Audience comments have included, ‘This is a story that needs to be told’; ‘Wow, that was so real’. Many have said they ached with laughter; other monologues have moved them to tears. Now, as the company goes into rehearsal for its latest production ‘SHE’, it has added to the program’s mix.
A spokesperson said, ‘We think audiences will describe ‘SHE’ as the WW&F’s coming of age. As well as monologues, we have included a one-act play that was selected for presentation at this year’s Lake Macquarie One-Act Play Festival. In the second half we will be presenting a drama told by three women. It begins in a pub in Kent, moves to a house in London that is owned by a peer of the realm, and ends when one of the women returns home after immigrating to Australia. We’ll finish ‘SHE’ with a monologue whose subject is as current as today’s headlines.’
The production’s Artistic Director is Frederick Millard, who has been a performer with the Macleay Theatre Company as well as Coffs Harbour’s CHATS. It is produced by Carrolline Rhodes, whose award-winning plays have been performed by Noosa Arts Theatre, Melbourne’s Baggage Theatre Company as well as CHATS.
Presented at Kempsey’s Bandbox, Dorrigo’s Old Gazette and Bowraville theatres, the production begins on the 8th of August and ends on the 22nd , and the program runs for about two hours.
