NEXUS in July
As we move through our busy winter program, Nexus Art Gallery in Bellingen is delighted to present two new exhibitions running from 19 July to 13 August: Dubravka Sabljak’s Encountering the Self in the main gallery, and Leonie Harrison’s Painting with Papers in the studio gallery.
Dubravka Sabljak | Encountering the Self
Main Gallery: 19 July – 13 August
Dubravka Sabljak’s exhibition Encountering The Self offers a glimpse into the chaos, creativity and unpredictability of the artist’s mind, exploring the many emotions, personalities and internal contradictions that shape the human experience.
As Dubravka notes of her most recent work:
“After months of clay, colour, creativity, exploding kilns, broken pieces, unexpected surprises and a whole lot of imagination, I’m excited to share my upcoming solo exhibition, Encountering The Self. This collection is a journey through the many characters, emotions and ideas that emerge through art and life. Some pieces arrived exactly as planned. Most had other ideas.
Loud, messy, curious, strange and beautifully imperfect, this exhibition is a celebration of individuality and embracing the things that make us uniquely ourselves.”
Leonie Harrison | Painting with Papers
Studio Gallery: 19 July – 13 August
In the Studio Gallery, Leonie Harrison’s Painting with Papers brings a fresh lens to collage, treating paper as a richly expressive, painterly medium. Through layered textures, colour and form, Harrison constructs dynamic compositions that sit somewhere between painting and assemblage, celebrating experimentation, process and the evocative potential of humble materials.
A quick reminder: the current Winter Members Show runs from 21 June to 16 July, showcasing the diverse practices of Nexus members before these two new exhibitions open on 19 July. We look forward to welcoming you to the gallery.
