Monthly Film Nights

Movie lovers are invited to experience the magic of the big screen at Bellingen Memorial Hall’s new monthly film nights, presented in collaboration with the team behind Bellingen Film Lovers and the iconic Bellingen Video brand.

By Phil Nicholas | Memorial Hall Venue Coordinator

Co-curated by former Bellingen Video owner Rod O’Hara, the programme celebrates classic and much-loved films chosen to bring the community together for a relaxed and memorable night out.

Rod said, “When programming for Bellingen Film Lovers, I’m always looking for interesting hooks. An important anniversary, a cultural moment or even the changing seasons can provide the perfect reason to revisit a great film and see it through a new lens.”

True to the spirit of community accessibility, tickets range between $10-$15, making quality cinema affordable for everyone. With Coffs Harbour’s major cinema recently closing after more than three decades, the programme also provides an important opportunity to keep the big-screen experience accessible closer to home in Bellingen. Guests can also complete the experience with fresh popcorn, snacks and drinks from the Hall’s licensed bar, creating all the atmosphere of a traditional movie night without the big-city price tag.

The series kicked off in August with a screening of the now classic 1979 Alien feature. It’s a movie that feels familiar these days, largely because so many later films borrowed from it. At the time, however, audiences had never seen science fiction presented with this level of visual realism, industrial detail and biological horror. It was revolutionary in both its production design and its overall approach to filmmaking, and it looked and sounded amazing on the big screen at Memorial Hall.

Forthcoming features include Creature from the Black Lagoon, a 35th anniversary screening of Terminator 2: Judgement Day and, towards the end of the summer holidays, director Rob Reiner’s unforgettable flick Stand By Me.

Whether you’re revisiting a favourite classic or discovering a film for the first time, these monthly screenings promise great stories, presented in a venue that has cinema in its DNA. Elope with us to movieland and head to https://www.bellingenfilmlovers.com.au/ to secure your tickets today.
