Inner Lives, In Retrospect
This August, Nexus Art Gallery in Bellingen presents two complementary exhibitions that explore the inner lives of their subjects and the passage of time across a decade of art-making.
What: The Sitting + Some Codd Pieces Exhibitions

In The Sitting exhibition, Jai Waters combines paintings and poetry to imagine the inner lives of sitters. Through intimate portraiture and an accompanying book, Waters invites viewers beyond surface appearance into moments of reflection, vulnerability and quiet presence.
Alongside this, Some Codd Pieces exhibition showcases selected works by Phyllis Codd from 2003 to 2013. This retrospective spans a rich variety of media, tracing ten years of experimentation and practice, and offering a glimpse into the evolving concerns and sensibilities that have shaped Codd’s work over time.
Together, these exhibitions invite audiences to pause, look closely and consider the stories, memories and inner worlds that art can hold.
The current exhibitions that run until 13 August are Encountering the Self by Dubravka Sabljak and Painting with Papers by Leonnie Harrison.
