Iconic Songs
The latest Coffs Harbour Music Society concert brings the great Australian bush ballads into the spotlight, sung by the award-winning Australian baritone Warwick Fyfe.
What: Iconic Songs of Australia and the Empire with Warwick Fyfe, bass baritone and Glenn Amer, piano
Where: John Paul College Theatre, Hogbin Drive, Coffs Harbour
When: 15/08/2026, 7:30pm
Warwick is widely acclaimed for his powerful stage presence and vocal versatility across a diverse repertoire.
Warwick’s magnificent bass-baritone voice usually finds him performing major operatic roles with symphony orchestras in opera houses across Europe. He is currently also a long-standing principal artist with Opera Australia, but in his ‘other life’ Warwick performs and adores the nostalgic sentimental songs of early Australia. Warwick and his excellent pianist, Glenn Amer, recently toured regional Victoria to strong audiences and great acclaim for their performances of the evergreen Australian songs that reflect Australia’s colonial past that still stir feelings of patriotism and trigger childhood memories.
Both Warwick and Glenn are passionate about saving Australia’s bush songs from oblivion. Their concert in Coffs Harbour celebrates the great bush songs of Australia such as Waltzing Matilda, Along the Road to Gundagai, The Dog sat on the Tuckerbox and of course Banjo Patterson’s iconic and rollicking ballad, Clancy of the Overflow, along with several other hallowed Aussie classics. In a respectful nod to the ‘mother country’ they will also delight our audiences with a few memorable songs of the Empire including There will always be an England, the Road to Mandalay and Old Father Thames.
Opera lovers won’t be disappointed as Warwick and Glenn will also present 3 dramatic opera arias. Te Deum from Puccini’s Tosca, the equally impressive Die Frist ist um from the Flying Dutchman, and Abendlich strahlt der Sonne Auge from Wagner’s Das Rheingold. This extraordinary concert, so full of contrasts, will be a night to remember!
