Encounter

At Art Space Gallery, Urunga | What makes an artist? For each person, the answer will be different. Creativity comes easily to some, but for others the gap between technical ability and inspiration is hard to negotiate.

What: Encounter Exhibition
Where: Urunga Art Space
When: 15 Aug - 12 Sept

‘Encounter’ is an exhibition designed to ask each artist to step outside their comfort zone and have a direct encounter with their subject. That may mean sitting on a hillside in the wind, working plein air, or painting from life or pushing a photograph past the obvious. It may mean 3D work which has special meaning or significance for the artist, it may mean taking risks.

For this exhibition the gallery asked the artists to create a narrative, and to record their experiences during the exercise.

Each artist’s work will be displayed together so that a narrative can be followed by the viewer. ‘Encounter’ promises to be different, provocative, and instructive, and will provide an insight into the challenges everyone faces when asked to be creative.

The work will include painting, ceramics, sculpture, a fabulous immersive group work and certainly some innovative approaches to the theme.

Artists include: Chris Wilson, Crystal Tate, Pete Gaily, Susan Romyn, May Southgate, David Southgate, Sarah Wade, Tom Maxwell and The Collective Four (Jackie Lee, Shelly O’Keefe, Philip Senior and Kathy Taylor).

The official opening will be Saturday 15th August from 10.30am till 12 noon. All are welcome!
