Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass

The Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival is about to land on your doorstep and you can get your tickets right now and start planning your weekend. This event only sustains if it has you as part of their happy family so we encourage you to get up to the Plateau on the weekend of the 23rd of October.

Festival coordinator Bridget Rees invites audiences to join a weekend filled with music, workshops, dance and community at this year’s festival.

“There are still some spaces at the Old-time Music School and Beginners Bootcamp, where participants will be in the safe hands of amazing tutors from the US and Australia. They will be inspired and ready to take part in the weekend.

“Visitors can stay for the whole weekend and enjoy the atmosphere of the beautiful campgrounds while being right amongst all the action, or come up for a day or two. They will get to see all of the performers, take part in workshops and dances, and perhaps even do a blackboard spot.

“The festival is honoured to welcome everyone to Country early on Friday evening with Uncle Phillip and Josh Marsden, Uncle Micklo and the Girrwaa Duguula Choir. It is a beautiful way to immerse yourself in a special place before the festival gets underway.

“There will be a chance to see all of the performers over the weekend, with a couple of exceptions. David Bridie and the Davidson Brothers will return home on Sunday, while Dingo will join us from Saturday for the rest of the weekend. The full program will be available very soon, and we hope audiences agree that there is a lot not to be missed and plenty of opportunities to get involved.

“There will also be a dedicated area where children can take part in an exciting program of hands-on activities. They will be able to take home their own bunting, plant a little tree, be delighted by Pierre, the festival’s resident puppet extraordinaire, and his new play, and make their very own puppet, just for starters.

“The festival aims to be zero waste and asks patrons for their support in achieving this. Please say thank you to the wonderful volunteers at the Possibilities waste tents and keep-cup wash stations. Visitors are encouraged to plan their visit, make wise choices and leave a lighter footprint on Mother Earth.

“Some of the festival’s generous performers will also be appearing at the Made in Dorrigo local markets on Saturday morning. It is a great opportunity to enjoy an early-morning cuppa, listen to some music and find something unique among the various stalls.

“Youth tickets are available, and there are lots of vocal and instrumental workshops to help inspire each participant’s musical journey. A youth session at the Blackboard Tent will also provide a space for young people to share what they have been working on.

“There are so many wonderful artists coming along for the weekend and so many ways to get involved. Who wouldn’t want to be part of it? We look forward to seeing everyone there.”
